Dear Colleagues,
Dear Colleagues and Worthy Members of PSH,
It is a great honor and privilege for the Conference Secretariat, PSH members, office bearers and hematologists in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to host the 23rd Annual PSH meeting. This conference has historical significance because of “the interesting times” in which it is being planned and held. These interesting time refers to a pandemic and its fall out that has a disruptive effect on each and every aspect of individual, collective, professional and sociocultural life. People from all walks of life had to come out of their comfort zones and explore and adapt to “new normals” encompassing everything. With this background and uncertainty for the short term future, it was a collective and pragmatic decision by PSH members to manage and carry out annual conference virtually, just like the world over professional societies have planned. This is a challenge as there are no benchmarks, wider experiences and there is dearth of event organizers in this virtual format.
However we believe in our resilience, creativity, will and resolve to evolve and meet the challenge. The team of people who have dedicated their time and effort to make this experience a success and bring forth the advancement of knowledge and practice for betterment of hematology services in the country, deserve a special credit. We are hoping that technology and all related platforms do not fail us in our endeavors . In addition to topic wise dedicated sessions, the organization of workshops for young and under training hematologists have been planned after seeking extensive feedback.
The format included both physical presence with virtual discussion so that same learning objectives can be met nationwide. It was worthwhile to invite our colleagues from other specialties to talk about consultative hematology and share their experiences. Also laboratory technologists and nurses make the critical link in practice of lab hematology and clinical hematology and they were made part of this annual activity. We are confident that our colleagues all over the country and even remote areas shall be able to participate and all shall be willing to bear with us with open heart and mind to make this conference a resounding success and make a difference for everyone.
I am especially thankful to President of PSH for his untiring support and encouragement and Mr. Imran Waheed to extend his help on the technology front.
We pray to Allah Almighty and seek his forgiveness and Blessings in small and large steps, we take and difficult times that everyone is going through.
