Para-Bombay - a blind spot in blood grouping

• A young pregnant female presented with anaemia (Hb 7g/dl) and required RCC for transfusion.

• Her blood sample was sent for grouping and cross match.

• On forward and reverse grouping blood group was B positive. 


Blood Group: B Positive  |  Performed above 37°C

• Cross match with 6 donors was incompatible.

 

• DAT and auto control were negative

• IAT was positive

• 3 cell and 11 cell panel showed pan reactive pattern 

• Anti Rh,kell,kidd and Lutheran antibodies were also pan reactive

• Test with Anti H sera ( Ulex Europeaus) was negative

 

 

DIAGNOSIS: Para-Bombay B Rh positive
