This book aims at filling the gaps in knowledge about genetic haemoglobin disorders in Pakistan. The information can also be useful for many developing countries. The first section of the book covers epidemiology, patholophysiology, diagnosis, management, and prevention. In the second section various techniques used in the investigation of these disorders are disucssed. The third section describes several interesting case scenatios. The book is primarily meant for haematologists but undergraduates, paediatricians, gynaecologists, general practitioners, lab technologist, and health planners would also find it useful.
Maj Gen Suhaib Ahmed (R), HI (M) graduated from Kind Edward Medical College, He is afellow of College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan and also has PhD from University College London. He is the pioneer of prenatal diagnosis in Pakistan. His landmark research on extended family screening for genetic haemoglobin disorders is widely acknowledged as the most cost effective method for population based screening in Pakistan.
